Benefits of Mindfulness for Children

When practicing mindfulness and meditation, over time you begin to build an increased amount of grey matter in the insula and sensory regions of your brain which are the sensory and auditory cortex along with the grey matter also building in the frontal cortex which is associated with decision making and functional memory (Schulte,2015), This is beneficial because  when you have more grey matter , called substantia grisea, it means you are more capable of storing higher amounts of information and receiving it easier and more efficiently along with overtime increasing the speed at which you are storing that information (Mercadante, Prasanna. 2020).

In my field work, I am teaching children mindfulness and why it is beneficial through mini lessons and activities which overtime will build on their cognitive skills and positive coping skills so that as they grow older they can apply those skills to hard or stressful situations and lessen the blow of anxiety, depression or other mental illnesses.
